Entomologist
Responsibilities:
As a Navy Entomologist, you will develop and implement disease- and pest-control programs, conduct research on vector-borne diseases, provide consultation during operations, and train military and civilian personnel. You will also assist in the development of pesticides and control techniques.
Work Environment:
Serve at over 250 Navy facilities worldwide, including National Naval Medical Centers, hospital ships (USNS Comfort, USNS Mercy), and Navy hospitals, or aboard surface ships. Opportunities are available globally, including Hawaii, Japan, and Germany.
Training & Advancement:
Attend Officer Development School (ODS) upon graduation. Regular promotions are based on performance, and specialized training offers post-service credentialing and career opportunities.
Qualifications:
- U.S. citizen with a Master’s or Doctoral degree in entomology (or related field) from an in-residence program.
- GPA of 3.2+ in graduate study and 3.5+ in entomology courses.
- Minimum 30 hours of coursework in entomology-related topics.
- Willing to serve 3+ years on Active Duty.
- Age 18–41, in good physical condition.
Preferred:
- 3–5 hours in acarology, parasitology, insect virology, invertebrate zoology, statistics, epidemiology, public health, and environmental health.
- Experience with arthropod disease vector control.
