Surgical Scrub Technologist

Works as a member of the Operating Room team providing services to patients undergoing surgery.

Primary Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Assists on a wide variety of surgical procedures including Cataract extraction and Pterygium excisions.
  • Selects and prepares the appropriate supplies and equipment for the surgical cases.
  • Operates surgical equipment.

            Scrubs on surgical cases and participates in surgery by:

  • Organizing the instrumentation and the sterile field.
  • Handing instruments to the surgeon.
  • Assisting in exposure of the surgical field.
  • Participating in surgical counts.
  • Performing related activities under the direction of the surgeon.

Other Duties:

  • Assists the circulator in activities such as:
  • Patient transfer, positioning.
  • Placement of monitors.
  • Management of fluids.
  • Obtaining needed items during surgery.
  • Assisting in room turnover activities including disposal of used supplies and linens, operating sterilizers and sterilization of instruments, replenishing supplies.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by direct supervisor.

Work Hours:

  • The position is part time.
  • Surgery days: Tuesday, Thursday and 1 Friday a month; 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to withstand long periods on standing, walking, or sitting.
  • Pushing and pulling equipment carts, beds/stretchers, and operating room furniture.
  • Lifting instrument trays, patients, oxygen tanks, or other items up to 50 lbs.
  • Some stooping and bending.

Communication Demands (i.e. verbal, email, face-to-face, etc.):

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, co-workers and Surgeon.

Qualifications/Education/Training/Experience:

  • Successful completion of a course in Surgical Technology or equivalent to.
  • On-the-job training experience

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours:      9 – 27 per week
