Student Aide I $ 14.00/hour

(High school graduate or equivalent)

Student Aide II $ 16.00/hour

(Successful completion of at least one year of post-secondary education which leads to an undergraduate or graduate degree.)

Student Aide Ill $ 17.50/hour

(Successful completion of at least two years of post-secondary education which leads to an undergraduate or graduate degree.)

 

Accounting Student Aide - Duties and Qualifications

Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Accountant V or Fiscal Officer, as assigned, performs accounting work in the maintenance of the City's financial accounting system.  Performance of the duties and responsibilities requires effective communication with various personnel in assigned departments and with internal and external auditors.

Under supervision, completes system generated fixed asset shell documents or manually creates documents for recording equipment and other capital assets.  Assigns reporting codes, depreciable lives, and indicate dates that the assets were placed in service.

Prepares or reviews, under supervision, encumbrance and payment documents along with necessary fixed asset documents for accumulating costs of capital assets being constructed by the City.

Works with the departments to identify substantially completed projects; reviews contracts and other supporting documents to identify constructed assets and properly classify the project costs; transfers the applicable work in progress (WIP) costs to permanent asset records.

Qualifications:

Ability to: audit invoices; make arithmetical computations; compare names and numbers; interpret laws, rules and ordinances relating to claims; keep records and prepare discrepancy reports; work harmoniously with others; operate a computer and have a working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel and Word.

Training and Experience:  A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school.  Knowledge of accounting, record-keeping, and auditing is highly desirable.

General requirements:

Students must be citizens, nationals or permanent resident aliens of the U.S. or non-citizens with proper work authorization.  Students must be legal residents of the State of Hawaii at the time of application.

Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary educational institution on at least a half-time basis, or intent to register in the next regular semester.
