Qualifications Required

Must have completed at least 12 college credit hours; be in good academic standing; demonstrate enthusiasm for helping students, initiative, positive attitude, and reliability; and have good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be skilled in subject area and provide reference from faculty member in subject area.

Narrative of Duties

Tutors will assist students with assignments from varied disciplines by helping them to reflect on and improve their composing and/or study processes. Tutors will work with students in online environments (e.g. email or video chat) or face-to-face as needed. They will be expected to exercise sound professional judgment, maintain a professional attitude about matters such as class standards and student challenges, work independently, and maintain rapport with students, faculty, and staff. Tutors will also do administrative/staff work and publicity and outreach for the No'eau Center (may include creating content for the center’s social media, brainstorming additional publicity and outreach strategies, creating and posting flyers, and speaking to individuals and groups). Tutors will also attend mandatory training and meetings on various developmental topics including but not limited to mentoring, assisting peers, and other student support strategies.
