Corporate Underwriting Specialist

Job Summary:

This role serves as the line of business subject matter expert (SME) across assigned Personal and/or Commercial Lines of Business, supporting the management of current products and implementation of new products. Conducts product research and policy system analysis; reviews Advisory Organization circulars and notices; conducts underwriting file reviews; and collaborates with business units to develop and implement new products and enhancements and correct system defects.

 

Typical duties include but are not limited to: 

Corporate UW Specialist II:

  • Functions with guidance as the line of business subject matter expert (SME) across assigned Personal and/or Commercial Lines of Business. 
  • Functions with guidance as SME on policy administration system changes initiated by the department; provides guidance as needed to the business unit(s) and IT.
  • Reviews ISO, NCCI, AAIS circulars & notices for assigned lines of business. Evaluates each circular & notice and makes recommendations for adoption, if applicable.
  • Supports underwriting file reviews and researches underwriting issues for assigned lines of business. Assists in underwriting review activities and provides input or findings for management review.
  • Supports coverage content training, including creation of training materials or marketing brochures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to ensure compliance and support business objectives including Filing Support.

 

Corporate UW Specialist III – Technical Specialist:  

  • Job duties are same as above, however, with each advancement of job level, duties are more complex and there is more accountability. At the Senior and Technical Specialist level, coaching/mentoring and day to day oversight become components of the job.

Qualifications / Experience:

Corporate UW Specialist II:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in an insurance company or agency in P&C Underwriting and/or claims, or insurance organization experience in product development
  • 4 years of insurance experience (P&C Industry, Corp UW experience preferred)
  • Proficient in common office applications such as email, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in policy administration systems, SharePoint Online, and Adobe Acrobat. Guidewire and AzureDevOps tools and services proficiency preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ISO, NCCI, AAIS, and independent state bureau requirements.
  • Demonstrates initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Applies analytical and critical thinking skills to analyze issues, identify opportunities, and develop effective solutions.
  • Communicates effectively with a broad range of audiences.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining timeliness and quality of work.

Corporate UW Specialist III: (including the requirements above plus the following):

  • 5 years of insurance experience (P&C Industry, Corp UW experience preferred)
  • With ascension to each level, the requirements as stated in the CUW Splst II require a higher level of performance and competency

 

Sr. Corporate UW Specialist: (including the requirements above plus the following):

  • 7 years of insurance experience (P&C Industry, Corp UW experience preferred)
  • CPCU designation preferred
  • At least 1 year serving as an informal team leader or lead with some formal supervisory responsibilities such as task delegation and follow-up, coaching and developing, etc.

 

Technical Specialist (including the requirements above plus the following):

  • 10 years of insurance experience (P&C Industry, Corp UW experience preferred)
  • At least 3 years serving as an informal team leader or lead with some formal supervisory responsibilities such as task delegation and follow-up, coaching and developing, etc.

Special Circumstances:

 

Position offers the possibility of a full-time remote arrangement

 

Salary Range: $64,000 - $118,200 annually
