Swim lesson instructor
Palekana Aquatics Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization on a mission to reduce drownings and aquatic injuries in Hawaii. We provide water safety education to elementary school students during their school day, and we are hiring part-time instructors for our spring 2026 session!
As a Water Safety Instructor, you will be making a huge impact in children's lives by helping them learn vital swimming and aquatic safety skills. Responsibilities include providing skill instruction in the water, monitoring the instructional area, assisting other team members both from the deck and in the water, and creating a safe and positive learning environment for students.
We are looking for individuals who have participated in watersports such as swimming, water polo, or artistic swimming, and/or have experience teaching (any subject) or lifeguarding. Prior work experience as a swim lesson instructor is not required, as we provide training on our aquatic safety curriculum, however applicants with prior experience and/or certifications will be preferred. The most important thing is being comfortable working with children and being capable in the water.
Lessons will be conducted at the Palama Settlement aquatic facility (810 N Vineyard Blvd, Honolulu HI 96817). Our spring session runs from the first week of March through mid-May, on Tuesdays and Thursdays (following the school-year calendar). Pay starts at $21 per hour, based on prior experience.
