HI National Guard Soldier

The Army National Guard is a part-time state-based military component that serves a dual mission. Each Guard unit serves under the command of their state governor to respond to natural disasters or other state emergencies. In addition, Guard units can be activated to defend the nation when needed.
To join the National Guard without prior service, you must meet these requirements:
- Be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Achieve a minimum score on the ASVAB test
- Meet medical, physical and moral requirement
Highly qualified candidates with expertise in legal or medical fields may be eligible for a Direct Commission through the ARNG Direct Appointment Program. To be considered for this elite program, you must have at least a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) and receive a nomination and selection from your Commanding Officer.
