Accountant Intern

May - August 2018 • Reston, VA

What I liked

Learning, high amount of work, great people and training

What I wish was different

Solely doing audit testing became repetitive. Wish the work was more diverse.

Advice

Take notes on everything you learn because it’s easy to forget a step to tests.

Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

The internship gave me the chance to practice with the C programming language and to write code professionally. I also learned a lot from my work because I had to research different algorithms and programming techniques to do my job effectively.

What I wish was different

During the internship, I had my own room in the office, so I didn't always get the chance to interact much with other people, which was in some ways a positive thing and some ways not. I liked having my own space to focus and get stuff done, but I also might have liked the chance to talk to other people more or have people to bounce ideas off of.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. As an intern, you aren't expected to know everything, so if you're ever confused about how to do something, or if you're even confused about what exactly your boss wants you to do, speak up. It's always a good thing to make sure you're on the same page.

Software Engineering Intern

June 2019 • Charlottesville, VA

What I liked

The project was very interesting, and I was able to make large contributions even as an intern. Leidos makes great choices for their tech stacks and understands how to properly develop for the cloud. Management was excellent, and the times we worked was flexible. There are some extremely talented engineers at the Charlottesville office.

What I wish was different

Corporate security policies and restrictions often made it difficult to create software, however they visited the office to work with us to improve the experience.

Advice

The ability to learn new technologies, implement best practices, and work on a team are the most important aspects of the job.

Mechanical Engineer Intern

May - August 2020 • Long Beach, MS

What I liked

I liked that I was able to work on the designs for several different products. I was able to really see the product development process throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish the other employees had not been working remotely. For a majority of the internship I didn't see my supervisor more than twice in the first 2 months or so.

Advice

Be prepared to do some iterative tasks. You make something then someone reviews it and you change it to make it better.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Charlottesville, VA

What I liked

Learned a lot of new things. I worked on mostly a front-end tool. The team was fantastic! Everyone was very supportive of one another. Other engineers were always willing to help.

What I wish was different

Overall, the project was interesting in the beginning but became stale towards the end. They were not very responsive to letting me work on other things that I wanted to learn.

Advice

Overall had a positive experience, but would likely not return.

Systems Engineering Intern

May - August 2020 • Arlington County, VA

What I liked

The environment was very relaxed and everyone was willing to help out whenever I had a question.

What I wish was different

I felt like I was dead weight a lot of the time since I was a systems engineer on a mostly CS based team. I would have liked to be on a team that required more of my skills so that I could have contributed more to the project.
